Selecting the Correct Boots

Rugby is a hard physical game, and you want to right gear so that you can perform at your best. Rugby Boots can be hard to purchase as there are so considerations. But what are these considerations. What should you think about before you go out and purchase a new set of boots?
What position do you play in?
If you are a back, you need your boots to be light and agile. You don’t want them to slow you down, but you need good grip for wet surfaces.
Do you take shots at goal?
If you take kicks for the team, then you are going to need to consider purchasing boots that are designed for taking kicks. They should have reinforced toes, and a durable outer that will not deteriorate from the repetitive action of kicks.
Are you a tight forward?
Tight forwards do the grunt work up front in a game of rugby, so they need hard wearing boots that will take a good thrashing. You may want to consider high cut boots, especially if you play in the second row.
What length of studs should I use?
There may be regulations on the length of stuff you can use depending on what part of the world you play on. But generally, the softer the ground the longer the stud you need.
Inner sole technology
Some of the newer boots on the market have various types of inner sole technology. Basically these different options allow for either a thicker sole, so you don’t feel the stud on harder ground, or for better comfort.
What is the upper made of?
There is a range of different options for the upper boot. Firstly there is standard leather. These are very durable, and a good all round option. There are synthetic boots, which tend to be very comfortable, but from experience less durable, as they crack and peal from prolonged use. Canterbury have also released a Kangaroo leather boot, which is meant to be very comfortable and light, however, as the leather is soft, they aren’t so durable.
Comfort
It is very important that rugby boots not only look that part, but that they are comfortable. Some boots may take a short period of time to wear in, and the odd blister is to be expected during this time. However, if boots are uncomfortable. They aren’t going to be much use.
Brands
Some people prefer certain brands. I prefer to stay away from brand loyalty. As long as you stick to the major brands, (Adidas, Canterbury, Diadora, Gilbert and Puma), and take into consideration the above mentioned point, you will be happy.
